Free Elf on the Shelf Printable Letter
While my kids are a bit older now, when they were younger, my youngest absolutely lived for Elf on the Shelf. The concept didn't come out until our later elementary years, but even still, he was hooked. But there was always the inevitable "oh, shucks. we didn't move the elf" conversation that my husband and I would have a moment too late after our elf was found on an early December morning. in the same spot as the previous day (womp, womp). That's when you need a bit of, errrr, elf support. This free letter printable will have your elf explaining the harried situation in no time. And, it might even add an extra layer of fun to your holiday shenanigans. A letter from the elf? What kid wouldn't get a kick out of that?
As I mentioned, there are three different designs that you can utilize for your elf's stationery needs. I also created both lined and unlined versions. The unlined versions come in handy when you just need to jot down a few brief words, rather than several rows of "explanation jargon".
Making Your Elf Letter More Authentic
After printing out your letter, there are a few tricks to make your elf's letter look especially real (or really funny, I suppose. this is all in good fun, after all).
- Use different handwriting than usual. If your kids are like ours, they'll spot mom's or dad's penmanship in a heartbeat. Give your elf's handwriting more of a childlike feel (sometimes I will write with my left hand since I'm right handed to look a bit different).
- A little spray glitter adds that magic elf sparkle to your paper. While I don't love a glittery mess, just a quick spray goes a long way to enhance "official North Pole correspondence". You can grab a can of spray glitter here on Amazon.
- A smear of chocolate or maybe a few well placed candy or peppermint wrappers by your letter scream "the elf was here".
- Add a small drop of peppermint essential oil (use a cotton swab) to your letter so it smells straight from the elf headquarters.
Again, that blank version is a miracle worker for just a quick (three-word) note for all of you in a hurry to just get a note out from the little guy. It's a no-fuss, no-muss printable for that very reason.
Elf on the Shelf Goodies
